What your Estimania result means

The usual score depends on the ratio between your estimate and the reference: 100 × (1 − |log₁₀(estimate ÷ answer)|), with a floor of zero. An exact estimate earns 100; being off by a factor of ten earns zero. Five questions give a total out of 500. Percentage questions use an odds-based rule, and some narrow-range questions use a stricter scale.

What to look at after a guess

Check the factor you missed by, not just the absolute numerical difference. Guessing 200 for an answer of 100 and 50 for that same answer both miss by a factor of two and score about 70 under the usual rule. The explanation and source tell you what the reference represents, including estimates with no single perfectly precise answer.

Common mistakes and what to try

Entering the full amount when the field asks for millions

If the unit says million USD, enter the number of millions. Recheck the field label before submitting.

Using additive distance to judge the main score

A miss of 100 means something different around an answer of 200 than around an answer of a billion. The usual rule is proportional.

Applying the usual ratio rule to every question

Percentage and narrow-range questions can use different scoring. Read the result’s explanation rather than assuming one formula covers every case.

How is Estimania like Perceptle?

Choose it for back-of-the-envelope reasoning and deciding whether an answer is in the right order of magnitude.

It asks about facts and scale. The main score compares ratios, rather than measuring the visible position, angle or rhythm you judged.
