Listen, continue, understand
Perceptle Tempo practice
Hear four beats, carry the rhythm through silence, and see whether your eight taps were early, late, faster, or less consistent.
Listen to four beats. After the fourth, continue the same pulse with eight taps.
Enable sound before starting. This independent tool uses a fixed audio clock; the original game also calibrates from your warm-up taps.
Ready when you are. Keep this tab in the foreground.
Use this pad, Space, or Enter while the pad is focused. Tap once per pulse; Friday keeps the same interval and shifts it half a beat.

How do Friday offbeats work?
Friday shifts your continuation taps halfway between the original beats. It keeps the same spacing, so you do not tap twice as quickly. At 100 BPM, the period is 600 ms. Relative to the final reference beat, Normal continuation taps belong at 600, 1,200 … 4,800 ms. Friday taps belong at 300, 900 … 4,500 ms.
Three numbers that describe different mistakes
- Mean timing offset
- The average signed difference from the expected times. Positive is late; negative is early. Eight taps consistently 100 ms late have a +100 ms offset even if their spacing is perfect.
- Average tap interval
- The mean gap between successive taps. Compare it with the reference period to assess a faster or slower pulse. Increasing lateness often comes with an interval that is too long.
- Timing jitter
- The population standard deviation of the timing differences around their mean. Alternating early and late taps can average near zero offset while still having substantial jitter.
Does this reproduce the original Tempo score?
This tool uses a fixed audio reference and the independent Unlimited formula: weighted error = 0.6 × |mean offset| + 0.4 × jitter, followed by the mode’s scoring curve. The original Perceptle calibrates using warm-up follow taps. Its final score can therefore differ from this measurement on the same device.
How can I make an attempt easier to interpret?
Keep the page active, choose one input method and avoid switching audio devices mid-run. Use speakers or wired headphones if Bluetooth delay makes timing hard to judge. Your measured offset includes the browser, input and audio path; it is not a medical assessment or an ability percentile.
What if I hear no sound or miss the start?
Press “Enable sound & start” yourself, check the tab’s sound permission and device volume, then restart. Moving the tab into the background or stopping audio interrupts the attempt rather than pretending it completed. Read the Tempo guide for the original game’s warm-up and troubleshooting guide for sound problems.
